Pairing Reading with Activities for Fun

As a parent, there are many ways you can make reading more fun for your child: using voices, asking questions along the way, and letting your child choose the books. But another great way to spark your child's interest in reading is by using I Can Read! books in conjunction with interactive activities.
After you’ve finished reading a book together or your child has read it alone, act out a part of the story you just read with your child. For example, you can:
• Help your child set up a lemonade stand like the Berenstain Bears do in The Berenstain Bears’ Lemonade Stand.
• Host a slumber party for your child and his or her friends like Pinkalicious does in Pinkalicious: The Princess of Pink Slumber Party.
• Take your child on a camping adventure in the backyard, woods, or even inside the house like Flat Stanley, Amelia Bedelia, and the Pony Scouts.
• Weather permitting, have a beach day together! Collect shells, build a sand castle, and cool off—just like Pete the Cat in Pete the Cat: Pete at the Beach.
• Plan an apple-picking trip! Is there an apple orchard near you? Or an apple tree? Plan a trip or pick apples from trees in your backyard if you have them. Help your child find the perfect apple like Fancy Nancy in Fancy Nancy: Apples Galore!
Another great way to let your child interact with the book he or she just read is by printing the I Can Read! accompanying activities.
